Wildlife Trusts Launch Campaign For Outdoor Learning

The Wildlife Trusts are asking for support for a new online campaign that will boost more outdoor learning in nature for children and young people.

The Wildlife Trusts are a federation of 46 independent wildlife conservation charities. A recent poll revealed that 1,000 people believe children do not spend enough time enjoying the outdoors. The campaign aims to support schools to give children the opportunity to spend more time outside in the natural world.

76% of participants in the poll said that learning outside enabled children to understand and experience things that cannot be taught in a classroom.

The impact of Coronavirus has also meant that many children have suffered from isolation and disruptions to their education. As a result, The Wildlife Trusts are leading the £33 million programme Our Bright Future, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

The programme believes outdoor learning can play a vital role in improving the mental wellbeing of young people and even in improving their academic outcomes.
