Statistics Show Workers With Mental Health Issues Take More Risks
A recent report from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has highlighted that the annual statistics on work-related ill health and workplace injuries in Great Britain do not fully capture the broader impact of mental health issues.
The IOSH magazine's analysis indicates that poor mental health may have played a role in some of the 60,645 work-related injuries documented under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases, and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR) in the HSE's summary statistics for Great Britain 2023.
Draft Non-Statutory Guidance on 'Gender Questioning Children' published by the DfE
December 2023 saw the publication of the new draft non-statutory guidance on Gender Questioning Children by the DfE.
The guidance has already caused some controversy and, as it is draft guidance, there is no requirement for it to be followed by schools or academies. Indeed, there has been some publicity about schools and academies in England potentially facing legal repercussions if they adhere to the guidance on the grounds of contravening the Equality Act, although this is not definitive.

Prominent Cider Manufacturer Penalised Following Death
On November 30, 2023, a cider manufacturer faced a fine in the wake of a beloved grandfather's death on his 65th birthday.
Tommy Manns, from Dymock, Gloucestershire, met with a fatal accident while driving for H Weston and Sons Limited, the producer of Henry Westons Cider, when a security barrier pierced through his vehicle's windscreen on September 28, 2020.
H Weston and Sons Limited were fined £1.4 million on Thursday following prosecution by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
