A group of children were en route to Austria, passing through Germany, when their journey took a harrowing turn. Welsh schoolchildren, from Ysgol Llanhari in Rhondda Cynon Taf, found themselves caught in a bus collision. Reports from German media indicate that the incident occurred near Landau, Germany, involving a total of 63 students.
Following the collision, the children were temporarily housed in a nearby gymnasium, as reported by the media organization SWR. Miraculously, no injuries were sustained in the ordeal. Details revealed that a truck and the coach, travelling in opposite directions, had a brush with each other due to proximity. Preliminary assessments by the police suggest that the truck driver momentarily diverted attention to the navigation system, leading to the breach of the centre line.
While the bus driver incurred minor injuries from shattered glass, thankfully, no other casualties were reported among the 73 passengers onboard, including teachers and supervisors. An Instagram post by the school assured concerned parties that none of the pupils suffered harm, with local authorities looking after the children until alternative transportation arrangements could be made.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council spokesperson affirmed the safety of all Ysgol Llanhari attendees involved, crediting swift action by local emergency services. Accommodations were swiftly arranged in a nearby facility as new buses were organised to ensure that the ski trip to Austria could continue. Regular updates from the headteacher provided reassurance to parents and guardians, acknowledging the invaluable assistance rendered by emergency responders during the ordeal.
