NEW: T-OL-EO06: Example Transgender Equality Policy (Staff)
Definitions and terminology regarding transgender people are evolving. Annex One of this Policy provides guidance on some of the most commonly used terms. Individuals will self-identify and how they choose to describe themselves should be respected by their managers and colleagues. Rather than assume, it is best to ask someone how they wish to be addressed.
Using inappropriate language and terminology can cause offence and distress and undermines the school’s efforts to create an inclusive workplace for transgender people.
The school recognises that gender identity and sexual orientation are not interchangeable terms. Transgender people can be bisexual, gay, heterosexual or lesbian and so colleagues should not assume that a transgender colleague has a particular sexual orientation.
UPDATED: R03 Redundancy Procedures
Formal procedures have to be in place to ensure that redundancies are carried out lawfully and fairly. For all types of schools the onus is on the employer. Use this Quick Guide to find out about procedural and statutory requirements around redundancy.
UPDATED: PEG04: Risk Assessment for Physical Education
Before completing this Risk Assessment, be aware of and consider safety issues addressed in your PE handbook, relevant school policies, schemes of work and other relevant documentation whereby policies, procedures and organisation systems set out safety standards to be applied in all activities in your PE programme. This sets out your current safety levels for PE. Completing this risk assessment is about establishing whether what you already do is safe or whether you need to further develop your current practice to make some issues safer
UPDATED: R02 Redundancy Procedure Record
In the event of a redundancy decision leading to appeal and legal action, keeping a record of how the original decision was made and evidence of proceeding in line with the law is essential. Use this document as a basis for recording redundancy procedure.
UPDATED: ST01 Conditions of Employment
The terms and conditions for support staff are set out in the local government terms and conditions, often referred to as the Green Book and where the nationally agreed pay and conditions of service for local government services.
As for Head Teachers and teachers where a member of support staff transfers to an academy under the Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment Regulations 2006 (TUPE), statutory conditions of service become contractual ones (Heron v Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council 2013) and remain as they were at the point of transfer regardless of any change in the statutory terms; also, and as for Head Teachers and teachers, academies either embody annual alterations into their own terms and conditions for teachers or create entirely new agreements which may or may not reflect the national terms and conditions.
